Student Action Network Mintues 10/19/08
Max Avery, President: We are the Student Action Network. Our goal today is to bring the activist students of this university together to allow all of us to work together towards increased participation among the student body. This forum is for us to say who we are and what we have planned. It is also a chance to raise any questions about needs or concerns any activist group may have. There are groups from a wide variety of activist causes, some of which people in this room do not agree with. If this is the case, please refrain from debating topics and be respectful of other’s goals, beliefs and dreams.
Danny Terlip, Communications Officer: In order to be more connected we will communicate through a message board located at
ouactionnetwork.proboards.com
Also on this board we would like to see contact info for each group involved in the SAN as well as a general mission statement. Registering is not required to post or read the topics. If you would like to add an event to the calendar, please post it in the current events topic and an administrator will add it to the calendar.
Circle Time: What group do you represent? What are you doing/events planned? What does your group need help with? What are your thoughts on the SAN?
Max: SAN. I would like to see more groups participate. How can we make this group work?
Sarah Warmker, Vice President: Amnesty International. Human rights organization. In the spring,
Some events planned are Groovefest and Amnesty International state-wide conference. AI meets every Sunday.
International Affairs Society. Umbrella organization for international groups. Upcoming event may be Global Awareness Week.
Laura Wiederhoeft: OUr Earth. Environmental activism and education. Upcoming events: Power Vote, Bikeability of campus, Union Station, Focus the Nation.
Misheala Giddings: Sooners for Isreal. Adding a speaker for Focus the Nation
Corey Hutchins: Advocates for Sexual Assault. Info about sexual assault and prevention. Upcoming events: "Take Back the Night" November 14th, "Think Teal" (recovering from sexual assault, music, art) Spring.
Kayla Barnes: Teach for America. Education disparity solutions. For Juniors and Seniors. Hold info sessions. We need help spreading the word about the group.
Ideas for the future of SAN: Activism fair, new meeting time (poll)
